KEEPING FERNANDO'S ART ALIVE

"I accept my brother's death but I do not accept his art dying with him" - Marcelo Bengoechea

The Studio at Fernando Bengoechea was created in Fernando's memory, with the mission of keeping his art alive by preserving, reviving and evolving his unique Woven Photograph legacy. His brother, Marcelo, refuses to let Fernando's art die with him and continues his work by hand-weaving his brother's memorable photographs himself, the same way he did, feeling Fernando's energy pass through his hands as he weaves.

Based in Encinitas, California, but traveling and working from all around the world, Fernando's brother Marcelo is on a mission to not let Fernando's art disappear with him.

It's like a collaboration between brothers. One in Heaven and one on Earth. Fernando took the photos and Marcelo does the weaving. It took Marcelo more than a decade to build up the courage and start weaving. He thought that it was "his" thing and that he had no right to "steal it" from his brother. As time went by; and with people continuing to show interest in Fernando's work, his view slowly changed.
